Ruby O. Olson, of Montevideo died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Fitzkappes officiating. Burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery, rural Montevideo.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 6:45 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Ruby Olea Olson was born on April 12, 1923 at the Montevideo Hospital to TR and Olea (Lanes) Moe. She was baptized and confirmed at the Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo, MN. She received her education at District #16 Rural School. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1941. Ruby worked at the canning factory, part-time at REC and at the Sears order office until her marriage to Carl Olson in January of 1943. They farmed in rural Clarkfield until they bought a farm in Eagle Bend. Three children were born to this union, Donald, Diane, and David. The family lived in Eagle Bend until 1960 when Ruby’s brother Ellsworth died. They then moved back to Montevideo to operate the family farm.
Ruby liked music. She started to sing solos at the age of 5 and then in later years duets in the school and church choirs. Her life was centered around the work for the Lord both in the Eagle Bend and Black Oak Lake Churches. Ruby taught Sunday school for 22 years and was the Sunday School superintendent and mission leader at Black Oak Lake Church. She studied the Bethel Bible series under the teaching of Pastor James Christopherson for 2 years and upon finishing the study she taught the adults of Black Oak for 2 years as well as the Ten Commandment series. Ruby was the president of the ladies aid and after Black Oak church closed she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She was a member of the Rebecca Circle and was the church secretary at Trinity. Ruby was also active on the prayer chain for the church. In addition to her work at church she and Carl did a lot of traveling in the western states and their last trip to together was to Alaska.
Ruby is survived by her son, Don (Judy), Milnor, ND, her daughter, Diane (Lyle) Pray, Parker’s Prairie, MN, son, Dave (Gwen), Montevideo, MN; grandchildren: Brian, Matthew & Sheila, Dan & Cindy, Daren & friend Susie, Marnie & Jason, Jenay & Allie, Tera, Derek & Heather, Lisa & Bill, Devin & Ariel and Mike & Ashley; great-grandchildren: Kali & Tom, Jacob & Shelby, Mattie, Jaden, Livia, Samantha, Averey, Caleb, Aidan, Aaliyah, Eja, Connor, Wyatt, Morgan, Ashleigh, Jaelyn, Lailie, Trayton, Eli, Chase & Mia; sister, Idella Gulden, Waterloo, IA; sisters-in-law, Louise Moe, Savage, MN, Eldred Moe Frerichs, Duluth, MN as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, brothers: Ellsworth, Art and Ralph; sister-in-law, Harriet Moe; brother-in-law LeRoy Gulden; granddaughter Tanya Pray; and grandson, Andrew Haff.
